چکیده

Most existing object-oriented database systems exploit a general purpose imperative object-oriented programming language as method deenition language. The use of such languages makes it diicult to analyze method properties and to optimize them. We believe that the use of an ad-hoc, set-oriented language can ooer some advantages, at least at a speciication level. In particular, such a language can ooer an appropriate framework to reason about method properties. In this paper we propose a set-oriented rule-based method deenition language for object-oriented databases which supports set-oriented update sequences with a deterministic semantics and we characterize some relevant properties of methods, such as behavioral reenement in subclasses and connicts among method speciications in sibling classes, in the framework of the proposed language.

Modeling and Reasoning About User Preferences in Service-Oriented Architectures

Service-Oriented Architectures and Web service technologies are the growing trend in software architectures to build platform-independent software components. Web services implement in fact specific piece of functionalities which can be world-wide advertised, accessed, and consumed by users. In this context, service discovery and selection play an important role w.r.t. the search and selection ...

Understanding Exceptional Behavior and Exception Flow in Implicit Invocation Systems by Mehdi Bagherzadeh, Hridesh Rajan and Ali Darvish

Exceptions and their implicit control flow complicate modular understanding (reasoning) of both exceptional behavior and exception flow of a system. Such reasoning tasks about exceptions are more complicated in implicit invocation (II) systems, where a subject module can invoke other observer modules without knowing about them and especially behavior and flow of their exceptions. In this work, ...

OWLET: An Object-Oriented Environment for OWL Ontology Management

In this paper, an object-oriented model and a software environment for the management of OWL ontologies is presented. The object-oriented model allows a simple and complete representation of ontologies defined by using OWL DL profile. The software environment, called OWLET, implements this object-oriented model and provides a complete set of reasoning functions together with a graphical editor ...

Qualitative reasoning about relative direction of oriented points

An important issue in qualitative spatial reasoning is the representation of relative directions. In this paper we present simple geometric rules that enable reasoning about the relative direction between oriented points. This framework, the oriented point algebra OPRAm, has a scalable granularity m. We develop a simple algorithm for computing the OPRAm composition tables and prove its correctn...
